A vintage print depicting the "Tour de Calais," a historically significant hot air balloon designed by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier. Sadly, during an attempt to cross the English Channel from France to England on June 15, 1785, the balloon caught fire and crashed, resulting in the deaths of de Rozier and his companion, Pierre Romain—the first recorded fatalities in aviation history. These are lithograph reproductions produced by Éditions du Chêne in Paris around 1956 as part of a series celebrating historical ballooning.
